Slow Scan television (SSTV) is a picture transmission method used mainly by amateur radio operators, to transmit and receive static pictures via amateur radio frequenties. SSTV usually only takes up to a maximum of 3 kHz of bandwidth, depending on the mode used, to transmit one image frame. Special are the ARISS SSTV events that broadcast SSTV images in PD120 format with an image of 640 x 496 pixels. The PD180 format was used until 2016, but PD120 appears to be more satisfying and is now the standard format.
